The new European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) replaces the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR), which has been in place since 2013.

The new European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) replaces the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR), which has been in place since 2013. Up to 90 percent of global deforestation is due to clearing for agriculture. The driving force behind this is the high demand for agricultural commodities in primary consumer markets such as the EU. The regulation therefore regulates not only timber and timber products, but also other products and their derivatives such as palm oil, soy, cocoa, rubber, beef, etc. The EU has therefore adopted a legally binding regulation, the EUDR. It entered into force on June 29, 2023, and was originally scheduled to begin at the end of December 2024 after a transition period. However, the start of application was postponed by 12 months (from December 30, 2025). APV Germany is in active contact with all mill partners to ensure the timely implementation of the regulation.
